Try doing this with an letter: draw a vague map of the county your mate lives in and annotate with ‘Peter O’Leary, somewhere here’. Insert into bright red pillarbox. That’s what Welshman, Paul Bates did. The letter made it to the correct destination in 9 days!

When I was a kid I really wanted a Space Marine suit and would sketch out my daydreams on paper and then build them in miniature. Beyond carving a pair of shoulder pads from polystyrene with my Dad’s soldering iron, I never got round to making the big one though (partly due to the soldering iron no longer working properly…)

Troy Hurtubise, long-time crazy inventor has made himself a real battlesuit and is willing to wear it while being shot with an elephant gun! The suit is well equipped apparently:

Its many features include compartments for emergency morphine and salt, a knife and emergency light. Built into the forearms are a small recording device, a pepper-spray gun and a detachable transponder that can be swallowed in case of trouble.

Dangling between the legs, that would be a clock.

I hope that’s not a spelling mistake. Whatever was he thinking?

Earthquake!

All of a sudden, my sofa jumped up and down for a few seconds. It didn’t feel like a normal earthquake, I’ve experienced a few here and they shake the windows in a vertical plane, like a Rolf Harris wooga board. This one proper bounced me. I checked it out on the Intarwebs, see what you make of it [German Language] 3.1 on the Richter scale.

So which did side of the fence did you fall on in the DVD format acronym wars of Xmas 2006? Blu-Ray? HD-DVD?
What?! You didn’t drop a grand for a player that may be obsolete within the year just so you could catch a closeup of King Kong’s nipples? You weren’t even in the queue for a PS3? Good choice.

Meanwhile the movie studios couldn’t decide either, with some releasing on only one of the formats, some on both, but comparatively few titles released on any of the HD media. With a small new market split in half like that it must be almost impossible to predict how many copies of a title to release, doubly so when releasing for both formats at once – even with the Christmas market and early adopters indiscriminately snatching craptastic titles for their new system.

Instead of fighting over whether Blu-Ray or HD-DVD wins out, Warner Bros have invented a disc that plays in both trays. They call it Total HD Disc.

What was the point of two competing formats again? Exactly. Moving on…

Yesterday I visited the cultural revolution that is TGI Friday’s. There I discovered something which, while initially disturbing turned into something wonderful once tasted… It’s deep fried macaroni cheese in batter! Try it before you die (if you have a heart condition those events may not be far apart!).

Chinese Soldiers Shooting at Tibetan Pilgrims

The video pretty much speaks for itself. Chinese soldiers gunning down Tibetan pilgrims while horrified climbers watch from a kilometre away. No evidence of aggression from the pilgrims is visible as they are murdered at a distance.

This must happen all the time (Amnesty International have said so for years), we just don’t see it because those who would report it are no longer around to tell the tale.
